This Division mainly devotes in developing different quality control devises for offset printing process. All of the R&D projects are entrusted by the Department of Industrial Technology of Ministry of Economic Affairs since 1996. The first three-year project was "Color Offset Printing Quality Control System", from 1996 to 1998. The second three-year project was "Digital Color Quality Control for Printing Product" from 1999 to 2001. And the recent three-year project was "Computer Ink-mixing Color Matching System" stage since 2002 till now. All of the products are as follows:

1. Control Target: Including two parts are (1) processing control test guide, and (2) mechanical characteristics test guide, etc. Main functions are for detecting and controlling quality of printed sheets.

2. Test Form: Including three parts are (1) characteristics of the printing reproduction system test form, (2) printing process control test form, and (3) standard color images test form, etc. Main functions are for detecting the miss adjustment of printing machine and comparison the quality of printed sheets during the printing process.

3. "Color Wizer" Quality Diagnosis System: Including two parts are (1) printing process control analysis system, and (2) mechanical characteristics analyzing system. Main function is for printing process quality control by means of using our computer software.

4. Digital Color Chart: Mainly coded with Adobe PostScript Level II language. Its' main functions are easy to use, least ripping problems, and suitable for different output devices. It can be used as color communicating standard and output basis in different step during the printing process.

5. Digital IT 8.7/3 Guide: This is in accordance with ICC international standard, and is coded with PostScript language. It contents 928 standard measurement color patches suitable for most color measuring devices, and different printing machine calibrations. It is a must device for building a color characteristic profile.

6. Post-press Fitness Inspection Technology: A set of three books including inspection and processing control of perfect binding, case-bond binding, and coating, etc. These are the best references for the technicians in related fields.

7. Monitor Characteristic Profile: This is a generator to produce an ICC profile for peripheral devices like color monitors and printers supported to color management system for color calibration in order to get the identical color from different media like monitors, digital proofs, and prints, etc.

8. Ink Basic Characteristics Testing Database: This product will offer all the analysis data of undergoing tests and color gamut, such as: graininess, viscosity, color strength, tack, emulsifying rate, dissolving pH rate, season durability, tarnish, drying time, chemical durability, temperature endurance, pressure endurance, etc. Those are for reference of ink manufacturers as well as a purchasing basis of the printing plants.

9. Printed Material (Paper & Plastic Categories) Printability Testing Database: This includes (1) basic characteristic database of tested inks, (2) printed products printability database of tested ink, (3) basic characteristic database of tested material. This is supplied to the operators of the printers of which the printing material, test methods, procedures are for references.

10. Basic Mixed Ink Color Database: More than 100 mixed ink database are build. Re-mixing color differences in yellow color hue is ΔE<3, in magenta hue is ΔE<2, and in cyan hue is ΔE<1. This is supplied to the printers for special color ink mixing, and related basic database.
